Direct Support Professional

The role of a Direct Support Professional:

  • Provide direct care to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Provide personal care tasks such as; assistance with personal hygiene, feeding, grooming, and health care related tasks if needed
  • Ensure service recipient’s safety and maintain a safe environment
  • Transport person(s) to and from house, such as a community activity site
  • Assist person(s) at their community activity site
  • Perform necessary training during ACE onboarding and annually
  • Document shift notes on a daily basis
  • Communicate changes, progress and updates with a supervisor on a weekly basis and as needed.
  • Assist service recipient in working towards their goals
  • Any other tasks and responsibilities that are given to you by your supervisor.


Direct Support Professional Qualification / Skills:

  • Ability to be flexible with day-to-day tasks and objectives
  • Comfortable working in an independent living environment
  • Communication skills
  • Some aspects of the job might include physical labor such as bending, assisting with lifts if applicable, pushing, pulling, reaching, and walking for long periods of time.


Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements 

  • Education in social work or psychology is preferred
  • Training in mental health and first aid are preferred
  • Experience working with adults who have intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred
  • CNA or PCA experience is preferred
  • Medication Administration experience is preferred
  • Must have valid driver’s license
  • Must have clean driving record
  • Must have working vehicle
  • Must have active insurance on vehicle


Work Hours and Benefits 

  • Benefits: Health, dental, and life insurance are available as a full-time Arrowhead Community Employment employee (32 hours/week)
  • Signing Bonus ($500): New hires will receive $250 of their bonus up front and the other $250 will be paid after 6 months of employment at Arrowhead Community Employment.
  • Hours: 15-35 hours/week
  • Starting Wage: $18 per hour

Our goal is to help people discover their worth to society, support and encourage them in their development, and open the door for them to thrive in their community.

  • Transport person(s) to and from house, job site, community activity site
